Happily Ever After: Movie Wedding Inspiration

Once upon a time, two people met, fell in love, went through dozens of script rewrites and reshoots, and then got married. Movies are such a huge part of people’s lives, so it’s no wonder they bring so much inspiration to couples on their wedding days. Whether it’s recreating the decor down to the last detail or just focusing on one small aspect that felt the most special, Hollywood has gifted us with so many amazing options.

And, since jewellery lasts forever, just like films do, we’ve picked out some of our favourite pieces that represent some of the most iconic wedding moments in cinema history.

Crazy Rich Asians

Crazy Rich Asians was a huge hit in 2018 and followed the story of a couple who travels to a lavish wedding in Singapore.
The actual wedding scene is a breathtaking spectacle. It’s opulent and incredibly romantic and sees the bride enter on an aisle that looks like a babbling brook that she floats upon like a fairy princess. It’s genuinely like out of a storybook. The decor is ethereal and dreamlike, with lush greenery sprawling around the venue and soft candlelight creating an intimate glow.

True to the movie’s title, the guests are draped in dazzling jewellery, from diamond chandelier earrings to statement necklaces, all of which highlight the overt extravagance of the moment.

For fans of the film, and anyone inspired by the gorgeous scene, an engagement ring that captures the essence of this event would help emulate the feel of the movie. An intricate vintage inspired detail, perhaps a sparkling radiant cut diamond set in a halo of pavé gemstones. Then there’s always the stunning emerald ring worn by Michelle Yeoh’s character which serves as a very meaningful plot point in the film.

27 Dresses

The premise of 27 Dresses was of a woman, Jane (Katherine Heigl) who constantly put everyone else’s needs before her own, and ended up being a bridesmaid 27 times. In true rom-com fashion, she gets a wedding scene of her own and all the previous brides show up for her in force.

The bridesmaids, each wearing the dress that Jane had to wear for their wedding, but even though they’re all completely different, it still somehow looks cohesive, and just as it should be. It goes to show that bridesmaids can still show their individual styles and not upstage the bride in any way. After all, they’re all up there together for a reason.

A nice way of letting the bridesmaids bring a bit of their own flair is through jewellery. Perhaps the same necklace or earrings but set with their individual birthstones. Maybe an engraving commemorating the occasion. Or even having them wear different pieces of jewellery from the same design collection so each one can showcase their favourite accessory. The possibilities are endless.

Mamma Mia!

Mamma Mia! is a dreamy, sun-drenched celebration set against the picturesque backdrop of a Greek island. The songs, the dancing, and the amazing cast are all what makes this movie one of the most beloved musicals of the century and the wedding makes for the perfect inspiration for a romantic, bohemian wedding.

The decor is more simple but still feels enchanting, with lush greenery mixed with soft white florals. The warm golden sunset bathes the scene in a soft glow, which really adds to the magic of the moment.

To capture the essence of this Mediterranean romance, a sapphire engagement ring would be the perfect choice. Imagine a deep blue sapphire set in a sun-soaked yellow gold band with delicate diamond accents to mimic the sparkle of the sea. And an aquamarine Signature Stone, to top it off, would be the perfect finishing touch.

Father of the Bride

The wedding scene in Father of the Bride is brimming with warmth, love, and a very cosy feeling. It’s set in the family’s beautifully transformed garden, with a marquee filled with twinkling fairy lights and lovely floral arrangements. The decor blends traditional charm with a personal, heartfelt touch, and highlighting the sentimental feel of the film. It centres on how a family dynamic changes when a child gets married and moves out of the home, so having a celebration that includes all the family members in some way is beautiful way of uniting them one last time.

A wonderful way to incorporate this sentiment is through thoughtful details, such as matching Mother of the Bride jewellery (or any parent and sibling). Coordinating accessories, like a delicate necklace or earrings, can strengthen the special bond between the family members and ensure they have a cherished keepsake from this important day. This small yet meaningful touch ensures the parents feel just as cherished on such a momentous day.

Twilight

The wedding scene in Twilight: Breaking Dawn, Part 1 is a woodland fantasy set in a secluded forest. The ceremony takes place under a grand archway draped with white wisteria and delicate greenery that create a naturally romantic canopy.

Bella’s demure white gown and minimal jewellery work perfectly with the timeless aesthetic that marks the beginning of their forever. In this case, quite literally. It was a beautiful moment that fans of the series had been waiting for for years, and it did not disappoint.

For those who’d like to recreate this nature-infused romance, there are many ways of honouring the film as well as the wedding scene itself. A ring with a leafy design to it would celebrate the verdant setting of Forks, a halo bezel or pavè band would emulate the sparkle on the vampires’ skin in the sunlight, and a dark centre gemstone would highlight their nocturnal tendencies.

The Little Mermaid

While some may think The Little Mermaid is all about a girl giving up her voice in order to be with someone, there’s a little more to it than that. She has been obsessed with the shores above for a long time, and she even has a cavern filled with so many treasures from the surface. Eric’s blue eyes dazzling as he looks up at the fireworks just happened to seal the deal, and she was adamant to be part of his world.

So when the wedding finally happens, after they escape an evil sea witch and save Triton himself, it’s a dream come true for Ariel who finally gets to explore terra firma with someone she loves.

But, it’s important to remember where she came from and to celebrate her coming of age under the sea, brides can adorn themselves in beautiful pearl jewellery that not only evokes the depths of the ocean but emulates the puff sleeves of Ariel’s iconic wedding gown.

Bridesmaids

This side-splitting comedy was a great way of showing how much it actually takes to organise a wedding. From the bridal shower, to the hen party, with so many little events and details in between, the bridal party is such a huge part of helping the big day all come together. Sure, in Bridesmaids there were slightly more hijinks than anyone would hope for, but in the end, the best friends were all there for each other as they danced along to Wilson Phillips and watched a laser show.

That’s why it’s important to celebrate the unsung heroes who will help lift the dress while walking up the stairs or going to the bathroom, who will always tell you when you have lipstick on your teeth before a photo op and will have a glass of bubbles waiting at all times. A set of matching tennis bracelets is a lovely way of taking the friendship bracelet trend to the next level. That way, each person will have something to look back on after this shared experience together and can wear it in their very own way.

Coming to America

This seminal ‘80s comedy is packed with endless laughs, brilliant performances from Eddie Murphy (he plays multiple roles), and a splash of romance as well. As the crown prince of Zamunda travels to Queens to find his future queen, he meets a dazzling and ambitious woman who changes his world.

The wedding scene in Coming to America is a grand and regal affair. Set in a magnificent palace adorned with towering golden pillars, flowing silk drapery, and an abundance of lush florals in deep reds, purples, and pinks, the scene feels like a modern fairy tale. The bride, Lisa, is radiant in possibly the largest pink wedding dress, with a dramatic train, and an ornate golden crown that symbolises her transformation into royalty.

There is so much to take inspiration from in this wedding, although seeing as Zamunda is a fictional kingdom, it seems unlikely that the prince will come looking for his bride anytime soon. But, the wonderfully over-the-top 1980s gown is the most gorgeous shade of pink which would look wonderful as a pink sapphire at the centre of an engagement ring.

Whether you’re taking inspiration from your favourite film couple, sharing the love with the rest of the family or celebrating the wedding party in style, jewellery is a way of making these moments so much more special. A bridesmaid can look back and remember that hilarious moment at the airport; a parent can reminisce about how much back-and-forth there was about the cake icing, and every time a couple looks down upon their rings, they’ll know that it’s forever.

The end.
