In the 21st century, there are different places for romance to blossom. Some love stories start with chance meet-cutes or mutual friends, but many modern relationships begin with a swipe. For Kirrily & Pete, it was indeed a dating app that brought them together back in 2017. Their first date was in Green Park.

They shared a casual picnic surrounded by trees and the excited buzz of London. As the banter flourished, it wasn’t long before they realised how much they had in common. They even discovered they worked just five minutes apart, and what started as one relaxed date turned into regular lunch breaks and coffee catch-ups.

The early days were simple, easy, and full of laughter. ‘From the beginning, we got along so well,’ Pete recalls. ‘We just enjoyed each other’s company so much. We both knew this was the beginning of something special.’ And they were right.

Subtle Engagement Ring Clues

As with many couples, the idea of getting engaged had been discussed casually over some time. Kirrily would often point out rings she admired, sometimes a friend’s, sometimes someone passing by. ‘She’d mention how beautiful a ring was and how lucky someone must be to wear it,’ Pete says. ‘To her surprise, I was paying attention.’

Pete began building a mental archive of the styles Kirrily was drawn to. Clean lines, brilliant sparkle, and something that stands out were common themes. When the time came, he knew he wanted to design an unforgettable piece that would take her breath away.

He turned to Taylor & Hart to create a bespoke ring that captured everything he knew Kirrily loved. The result was a custom piece that was both dazzling and deeply personal. At its centre sits a beautifully round cut diamond that catches the light from every direction. That is only enhanced by the halo design and pavè band. Kirrily describes it as ‘so sparkly’ and admits she’s always getting compliments, which is such a nice full circle moment.

What makes the 18ct yellow gold ring even more personal is the small amethyst Signature Stone set inside the band. As Kirrily’s birthstone, Pete felt it was the perfect way to add something meaningful to an already thoughtful design. ‘It was the extra touch that made it hers,’ he says.

An Antigua Proposal

Pete planned the proposal with as much detail as he devoted to designing the ring. He booked a private Champagne dinner on a dock in Antigua, with the sea behind them and the Sun setting. As the sky changed colour and the gentle waves added to the ambience, Pete asked Kirrily to marry him. ‘It was a very special moment, one we’ll remember forever,’ he says.

For Kirrily, the ring ticks every box. ‘My favourite thing about my engagement ring? Oh, everything’ she says. But the diamond seems to be her most standout feature. Its clarity and cut give it a bright, noticeable shine without being overstated. She also loves all the sweet thought Pete put into the design. ‘The amethyst inside the band is such a lovely personal touch. It makes something already so beautiful even more special.’

My favourite thing about my engagement ring EVERYTHING.

Rings Straight from the Vision Board

When it came time to choose their wedding bands, both Pete & Kirrily already had an idea of what they wanted. Something classic, but with a little twist was the theme, and Pete went for a thicker wedding band in 18ct gold with a polished finish. It’s a timeless choice but has presence, something that looks strong without being too, too bold.

Kirrily, on the other hand, had a much more bespoke vision. ‘I’ve always liked the idea of contrast,’ she says. She wanted a chunkier band to sit beside her delicate engagement ring, creating a balance between light and weight. She also loved the idea of something slightly unexpected, so what she decided on was a mosaic-style wedding band.

Kirrily brought inspiration pictures and sketches to her consultation in our London showroom. The team worked closely with her to bring the dreamy design to life. The final ring features a clustered diamond mosaic pattern across the band. The effect is really original and something you wouldn’t see every day. But, it still manages to work super well as a daily piece of jewellery, especially if you like the bold and the beautiful.

‘I couldn’t believe the outcome,’ Kirrily says. ‘It’s the most incredible craftsmanship. It feels so individually made, which makes it even more personal and special.’

Like her engagement ring, her wedding band also includes her birthstone hidden inside the band, a detail that carries through the story of their rings. Pete’s wedding band has the same feature, with his own birthstone embedded inside, making their set a matched pair in a heartwarming and meaningful way. They have heart eyes every time they look at the rings.

To her surprise I was acknowledging and making note of what sort of style she was drawn to. Thankfully, at Taylor & Hart I was able to create a bespoke ring that I knew she would really love.

Looking Ahead

Now officially married, the newlyweds are looking forward to their future together. Travelling has always been something they’ve enjoyed doing as a couple, and they plan to keep exploring the world, collecting new memories along the way. ‘We’re also looking to get a dog soon,’ they say, ‘which we’re very excited about.’

But more than anything, they’re excited to keep building a life together, ‘as Mr and Mrs Chambers.’
