The 4 Cs of diamond quality is a term coined by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA). The GIA is an international non-profit organisation dedicated to producing consistent, accurate and unbiased grading reports.

GIA developed a grading system that determined the 4 Cs, carat, colour, clarity and cut, of a diamond. Each diamond is twice-inspected and graded by skillfully trained eyes and the assistance of modern technical tools to analyse a diamond’s quality. The head of a ring is made up of all the design elements that hold a stone in a ring. This includes the ring collet, which is the circular rim into which the centre diamond is set, and basket or the claws, which wrap around the centre diamond and secure it in place.

Depending on personal style, price point or symbolism, a ring can be crafted with a natural diamond, a lab grown diamond, a coloured diamond, a precious gemstone like a sapphire, ruby or emerald–the choice is yours. Either way, it’s often said that you don’t choose the stone, the stone chooses you and sometimes upon first glance, there’s a feeling that it’s meant to be.
