Katy Perry’s Engagement Ring: A Teenage Dream Come True
Cupid struck Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom, with a surprise proposal for the couple, on the most romantic day of the year, Valentine’s Day.
The California Gurl and Lord of the Rings star had been dating on and off for three years, and announced their engagement on Instagram with a sweet photo of the pair.

From the images, Perry’s engagement ring looks to be an oval purplish-red ruby. The centre gemstone is surrounded by round diamonds, framed with a delicate milgrained halo.
Milgrain is a raised metal beading effect, usually featured along the edges of a design, serving as a textured frame and highlighting the stone at its centre. This design element is often seen in antique and vintage-inspired jewellery design. Crafted in warm yellow gold, Katy is right on trend with yellow gold engagement rings seeing a significant come back over the last few years.
Adored by members of the British royal family and celebrities alike, the versatility of halo engagement rings is appreciated worldwide – the most famous being the blue oval sapphire diamond halo engagement ring, now worn by Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, having previously belonged to Princess Diana.
Perhaps as a nod to his British heritage, Katy’s engagement design bears similarities to Princess Eugenie’s Padparadscha sapphire engagement ring. While the Princess’ ring holds a lighter, softer hued centre stone, Perry’s gemstone has a deeper tone with slightly larger diamonds on the halo, reflective of her bold sense of style.
Never one to shy away from experimenting with fashion, Katy Perry is known for her whimsical sense of personal style.
This halo engagement ring seems to be the perfect blend of convention and daring uniqueness–the notable vintage design screams tradition, but combined with the bold colour of the ruby and the dramatic size of the diamonds on the halo, it’s a match made in heaven.
With a multitude of design customisations and details, the charming opportunities of a halo engagement ring design have not gone unnoticed and we presume their popularity will only continue following the news of Katy Perry & Orlando Bloom’s engagement.
