Twisted Engagement Rings

A twisted engagement ring is the perfect symbol for an everlasting and intertwined love.

Design your own twisted band ring

Twisted engagement rings are a beautiful way to represent a close bond between two people, as the twisted circular band symbolises a love that is eternal. Twisted bands are elegant and stylish, not to mention very popular at the moment. There are so many different ways you can craft a twisted band, leaving dozens of options for those who love the sentiment and crave something unique.

What is a twisted band engagement ring?

A twisted band engagement ring is a ring that features a twisted shank, meaning the part of the ring that leads up to the shoulder and gallery. Twisted shanks can either be twisted throughout the entire band, or 3/4 or 1/2 of the band. Alternatively, twisted engagement rings can just feature a single subtle twist around the centre stone, working to accentuate the placement of the gemstone.

Styles of twisted band engagement rings

Twist shoulder engagement rings

Twist shoulder bands are an elegant and subtle design detail wherein the band simply twists around the shoulders of the ring, to support the centre gemstone.

Twist solitaire engagement ring

A twist solitaire ring is when the design of the head of the ring allows the prongs to simply twist around the centre gemstone.

Tension set engagement rings with a twist

Tension settings are an incredibly minimal way to mount a diamond or gemstone. Combined with a simple twist, this setting style makes for an eye-catching statement piece.

Compass engagement ring settings with a twist

Compass settings are reserved for square cut gemstones, such as the princess cut or the asscher cut. Compass settings involve the gemstone being set at a 90 degree angle, rotated so that the points are in line with the finger.

Three stone twist engagement rings

A unique take on the classic trilogy, the three stone twisted engagement ring features flowing lines between each gemstone making it a fluid and elegant design.

When choosing the perfect twisted band engagement ring, consider whether you prefer a full eternity band or half eternity. Bands that twist all the way around the shank have an organic look, but if you wanted something more subtle you could consider a shank that just twists around the head of the ring. Ultimately, choose the style that speaks to your personality and style the most.

Best metals for twisted band engagement rings

For a twisted band engagement ring, we recommend only the most durable precious metals as you don’t want the distinct shape of the twist to bend out of shape and potentially cause the gemstone setting to become loose. Metals such as platinum, and 18ct yellow gold and rose gold are excellent choices to craft a twisted band with, as they are very durable. Platinum is particularly hard wearing, and often is the best metal to use for intricate shapes. 18ct white gold is also a great choice, however because the metal needs replating every couple of years or so it can be a metal that requires a little maintenance to keep its brilliant look.

How twisted band engagement rings are made

Crafting a twist engagement ring takes a great amount of skill and expertise. If crafting by hand, there are two ways of doing the job. The first method involves cutting two metal wires of the same length. The wires would then be clamped at one side, and then twisted to create a unified, even band. When the jeweller is satisfied that the twists are even, they then solder the segments of wire together and mould it into a twist ring.

The second method involves cutting out a thick shank, and then filing the twist into it. The mounter would mark measured sections along the band, and then file the twists evenly into the ring.

If you love the look of pave, you can set small diamonds into a twisted ring. Diamonds can be set along the entire band, providing the twists are thick enough. Twisted rings can also be set with small gemstones, or an alternating pattern of gemstones and diamonds.

If you love the twisted pattern but already have an engagement ring, a twisted wedding ring can also be a wonderful way to incorporate the style into your wedding jewellery stack. Our collection features a selection of twisted wedding bands that are available in platinum, yellow gold, white gold, and rose gold.

Longevity of twisted band engagement rings

Twisted band engagement rings are a safe and stable band choice, providing they’ve been well made. We ensure that all of our twisted bands are crafted to the highest standards, and built to withstand the test of time. We do this by never making twisted bands that are too thin, as well as crafting them with extremely durable metals.

When purchasing a twisted band engagement ring, make sure you know the wearer’s ring size. Twisted bands cannot be resized, and will need re-casting if there needs to be any changes. This is to safeguard the quality and integrity of the ring.
