Twisted shanks can either be twisted throughout the entire band, or 3/4 or 1/2 of the band. Alternatively, twisted engagement rings can just feature a single subtle twist around the centre stone, working to accentuate the placement of the gemstone.

How twisted band engagement rings are made
Crafting a twist engagement ring takes a great amount of skill and expertise. If crafting by hand, there are two ways of doing the job. The first method involves cutting two metal wires of the same length. The wires would then be clamped at one side, and then twisted to create a unified, even band. When the jeweller is satisfied that the twists are even, they then solder the segments of wire together and mould it into a twist ring.
The second method involves cutting out a thick shank, and then filing the twist into it. The mounter would mark measured sections along the band, and then file the twists evenly into the ring.
