Brie & Sara: Behind The Design

It all started with a poke – a Facebook poke. Back in the early days of social media (and this was 2017), a poke was a way to say ‘Hey,’ without saying much of anything at all. That’s exactly what Brie was going for when she poked Sara. She knew it was a bit old-school, but hoped at the very least, it would make Sara smile, and lo and behold, it did. Sara was intrigued, partly because Brie was ‘well, obviously a babe,’ but also because Sara had no idea people still used the poke function on Facebook.

Unsure of the intention behind this retro move, Sara hesitated at first but then fate, and perhaps the LGBTQ+ party gods, stepped in. They finally met in person at Hot Rabbit, a queer party in New York. Sparks flew, but Brie & Sara were determined not to rush things. Slow and steady, they grew closer until their journey eventually led them down the aisle.

The Rings That Sparked a Thousand Smiles

Brie & Sara have themselves said they’re far from traditional. So when it came to engagement rings, there was no question that they needed something as unique as their personalities, and their love. They each created Pinterest boards, curating their individual dream designs.

While they felt they knew each other inside out, there’s something special about working together to find those perfect symbols of forever.

The collaborative approach allowed them to build a shared vision, before secretly parting ways to keep their final proposals a surprise as they both wanted the thrill of being proposed to. Sara went first and Brie followed.

Brie’s engagement ring is a masterpiece of unique shapes, perfectly reflecting her one-of-a-kind nature. The wedding band and engagement ring fit together like two pieces of wearable art, like puzzle pieces that were always meant to be. Inspired by their love of Art Deco, Brie’s ring is more than just jewellery – it’s a sculpture of love she proudly wears every day.

Brie is a more unique shape and cut of a human so OF COURSE she needed a ring design that spoke to that.

Sara

Sara’s ring? A bold black diamond, surrounded by geometric trapezoid side diamonds. From the very start, Sara knew she wanted something different – a black stone, gold accents, and the perfect mix of elegance and edge.

We figured out ways to incorporate her love for geometric influences to give her something as unique and special as she is.

A Tale of Two Proposals

Sara, a self-confessed romantic, planned an elaborate movie ‘fake-out’ for her proposal. The two had bonded over their love of the cult classic To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar, so when Sara said the film was being shown at a Brooklyn cinema, Brie didn’t suspect a thing. The surprise proposal video, featuring drag queens Ducky and Patsy (who later officiated their wedding), took over the screen during the screening. Cue lights, cue friends in disguise, cue the big question. Brie absolutely lost it and then said yes, of course.

Brie then took a slightly different approach to her proposal. Knowing Sara is a ‘Disney Adult’ through and through, she planned a day at the Magic Kingdom itself, one of Sara’s favourite places on Earth. After a day of hidden nerves and distractions, Brie revealed her Mickey ears that read: ‘Marry Me?’ at Pixar Pier, just as the sun was setting. The magic of the moment culminated in a ‘yes’ and a firework finale. A truly Disney-worthy ending.

The Wedding Bands – Perfect Puzzle Pieces

When it came to designing their wedding bands, Brie & Sara wanted rings that would complement their engagement rings while feeling like a perfect unit together.

They both loved the idea of their rings locking in place like puzzle pieces or two parts of a whole. Matching finishes and stones ensured that both sets of rings told a cohesive story, like the perfect sequel to their engagement.

The Unforgettable Wedding Day

Held in two parts, a ceremony and lunch, followed by an epic reception and party, the wedding day was anything but conventional. They were married by their fabulous drag queen friends Ducky and Patsy, enjoyed incredible food and music, and even had a tattoo artist on site. To amp up the cool factor, there was an In-N-Out food truck for late-night snacks.

From the Persian sugar ceremony to their choreographed first dance in matching tracksuits, Brie and Sara’s wedding was as unique and quirky as they are. Every detail, from the florals to the music, was planned with love and creativity, making the day an unforgettable celebration of their entwined lives.

What’s Next for Brie & Sara?

After an incredible honeymoon in French Polynesia, Brie & Sara are looking forward to their next adventure: finding a bigger home for themselves and their beloved husky, Maverick. For now, they’re revelling in the joy of their new life together, wearing their beautiful rings as a reminder of the wild and wonderful adventure they’ve shared so far.

Their love story, like their rings, is a perfect fit. And we can’t wait to see where they go next.
