What is an anniversary ring?

An anniversary ring is a symbol of love and commitment exchanged between partners to commemorate a milestone in their relationship, typically on their wedding anniversary. These special rings often feature diamonds or other gemstones and can be worn alongside the engagement and wedding rings or as a standalone piece. A symbol of love and commitment, anniversary rings serve as a sophisticated yet tangible reminder of cherished memories made and the enduring bond between you and your partner.

We believe anniversaries should always be celebrated – as a marker of your love story so far, and the journey you’ve been on together.

Whether it’s your first wedding anniversary or your Golden wedding anniversary after 50 years together, we want to help you find the perfect ring for where your love is today.

anniversary rings FAQs

Does the anniversary ring replace the wedding band?

No, an anniversary ring is usually worn in addition to your wedding band and engagement ring.

Building on the love story you began, the anniversary ring can represent the new memories you create together – complementing and enhancing the existing set of rings, creating a beautiful stack or ensemble on the finger.

How much do anniversary rings cost?

We bring our wealth of experience and expert care to enable you to create a ring that’s bespoke to your love, at a price point that’s right for you.

The cost of anniversary rings varies from hundreds to thousands and our design consultants will be able to guide you through the options depending on:

  • the quality and size of the diamonds or gemstones
  • the type of metal used
  • the style of the design

When should you buy an anniversary ring?

At Taylor and Hart, we don’t do rules. We celebrate love in all its forms, at all its stages.

Typically, anniversary rings are given on significant milestones, such as the first, fifth, tenth, and on decade and half-decade anniversaries beyond.

However, there are no set rules, and some couples may choose to exchange anniversary rings at any time to celebrate their love and commitment.

Consider what’s important to you and your partner – whether it’s a significant occasion, a strong desire to gift something truly special, or a traditional anniversary marker.

What kind of rings are good for an anniversary?

We always seek to celebrate the remarkable nature of love – and the right anniversary ring for you depends on, you.

If you need a little help getting started on your journey, here are some popular ‘traditional’ anniversary gift options:

Platinum Anniversary Rings

When a couple reaches 20 years of marriage, it’s traditional to give a platinum gift–which is perfect for a ring. Platinum anniversary rings can be in any style or feature any other gemstone or diamond formations that are typical of an anniversary ring.

Diamond Anniversary Rings

A classic choice for 30th wedding anniversaries, diamond rings symbolise everlasting love. With endless design options incorporating either single diamonds or multiple stones, could this be the one?

Ruby Anniversary Rings

Reaching the incredible milestone of a 40th wedding anniversary is popularly known as a Ruby Anniversary. Rubies symbolise love and passion and as one of the most coveted gemstones, a ruby anniversary ring is a sentimental choice to celebrate four decades of marriage.

Sapphire Anniversary Rings

Sapphires are traditionally associated with both 45th and 65th wedding anniversary celebrations. A symbol of loyalty, sapphires, particularly blue sapphires, are an apt choice for celebrating such a milestone. There are several ways to incorporate a blue sapphire into a design–be it a signature stone set on the inside of the band or a design that specifically incorporates them on the head of the band.

Gold Anniversary Rings

When you think of a ring, you often think of a gold ring. And it’s this kind of tradition that popularly represents 50th wedding anniversary celebrations. It could be a polished metal ring or a gold ring adorned with diamonds and precious gemstones, as long as it’s gold, it symbolises five full decades of love and commitment.

Eternity Rings

Forever and always. What better way to strengthen the magic of your vows than with an eternity ring? Representing eternal love, these are often adorned with gemstones, often diamonds, which encircle the entire 360 degrees of the band.

Customised Rings

As unique as you are, why not consider creating a personalised ring designed to incorporate meaningful elements such as birthstones or designs with exceptional sentimental value?

Upgrade Rings

As your love story grows and evolves, you and your partner might consider upgrading your original engagement or wedding rings to mark a key anniversary or a special milestone.

Which finger do you wear this ring on?

The finger on which you wear an anniversary ring can vary; across continents and cultures, and with personal preference.

In many Western countries, including the United States and in the United Kingdom, the anniversary ring is often worn on the ring finger of the left hand, alongside the engagement and wedding rings. However, some individuals choose to wear it on the right hand or even on a different finger.

At Taylor & Hart, we celebrate a love less ordinary – there are no hard and fast rules. The wearer can decide which finger feels most comfortable, is most practical to their daily life, and is most meaningful to their love.

Is there a difference between eternity rings and anniversary bands?

There’s two common understandings of the term eternity rings. The first is simply a ring that is meant to be worn forever, as a symbol of everlasting commitment and loyalty. It doesn’t have any particular style or design features that makes it so–it’s more about the symbolism of the ring.

The second understanding of an eternity ring is a design that typically feature a continuous band of gemstones, often diamonds, that encircle the circumference of the ring either half-way, three-quarters or fully. The gemstones are typically of uniform size and are set in a channel or prong setting. Eternity rings symbolise eternal love and commitment, with the unbroken circle representing never-ending affection. An eternity ring is entirely down to your personal perception, and can be whatever you choose to perceive it as.

On the other hand, anniversary bands can encompass a broader range of designs. While some anniversary bands may be in the style of eternity rings, featuring a continuous band of gemstones, others may have a more varied design. Anniversary bands can include different types of gemstones, variations in the arrangement of stones, or even feature other design elements like intricate patterns or engravings. The emphasis is on commemorating the anniversary milestone with a special ring.
